I mentioned in my last article the family side of Thanksgiving. The principle is above all the need to find the time for a long weekend together, grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren. During these weekends, there are necessarily breakfasts (and why not porridge?). In my family, this is one of the most important moments. It is at this moment that we find ourselves around a table to be discussed for hours.
Since I was a child, when I go to my grandparents for a weekend, Sunday morning is always punctuated by a long breakfast. In fact, it is not what we consume that is important but the fact that we are reunited. It was then that the great conversations begin and you can not stop us! We finish late but we had a great time.
While wishing to stay on the theme of Thanksgiving, I wanted to propose a breakfast a little festive with cranberries (fruit very used during this celebration in the USA). With this freezing cold outside, I wanted something warm! Here I am to propose you a porridge of oats with jam of cranberries.
I find this breakfast very good and pretty. The cranberries bring a real festive touch. I chose alpro almond milk because I find it really good. It has a sweet taste of almond and is slightly sweet without being too much. It is also enriched with vitamins and calcium. The preparation can be done for 20 as for two. This is the ideal breakfast for a family weekend. I offer it for Thanksgiving but you can also enjoy it on Christmas morning.
Thanksgiving porridge with cranberries
For 1 bowl + 1/2 jar of jam
Preparation time : 10 minutes / Cooking time : 5 + 30 minutes
2 cups of fresh cranberries
2 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup oatmeal
1 cup of water
1 cup alpro almond milk
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)
I prepared the jam the day before. For this, I cooked the cranberries in a saucepan with water and maple syrup. I set on medium heat stirring occasionally for 30 minutes. Then you can put it in a glass jar and store it in the fridge.
In the morning, I realized the porridge. In a saucepan, I cooked the oatmeal with milk and water. I added cinnamon. If you find that it is not sweet enough, you can add maple syrup, for my part it was without.
Cook for 5 minutes. Finally, when the consistency is thicker, pour into a bowl and add 2 tbsp cranberries jam. You can also add the topping of your choice like nuts for example.
